Twin Cities Omega Zulu: The creation of The Twin Cities Omega Zulu Chapter of the Universal Zulu Nation arose from one of New York City’s great Hip Hop artists and advocates, Phase2. After establishing an Omega Zulu chapter (originally Zulu Maasai) in Italy in 1984, Phase2 spent the summer and fall of 2008 in the Twin Cities. He saw a lack of integration within our Hip Hop elements, and a need for a unified voice to uplift our community and youth. With his guidance, our chapter became official on November 11th, 2009. Among our many accomplishments in this short time period, we have presented our “Hip Hop Culture and Positive Hip Hop Tools of Inspiration” workshop at the University of Minnesota’s annual Vices to Verses Hip Hop conference, taught a six-week Hip Hop summer school course in conjunction with Beacons Minneapolis, and were an integral part of B-Girl Be: A Celebration of women in Hip Hop. We continue to unify positive people through the artistry and knowledge of our street culture, Hip Hop, and we are committed to preserving, representing, and continuing the culture of Hip Hop.
